A dream born in the shadow of an oak tree
The history of our campsite
The story of our campsite begins precisely from its oak tree.
A centuries-old tree, among the longest-lived in Italy and listed by the WWF, it stands on the land owned by the Barbato brothers, a "grass floor" overlooking the beach and Lake Garda.
Franco Russo is respectively the son and grandson of the two brothers and married Adriana. These two young graduates have a sure and secure future, with two positions in a large national company.
In 1956, however, they decided to take on a new challenge: to establish the Camping La Quercia.
They start with a few pitches, a bar and a small store. The first year is difficult, but Franco and Adriana look forward to connecting with nature and guests. Thanks in part to the help of Flavio Zaninelli, a business mind who runs the little store, the campground grows quickly and takes off, with more and more new services and facilities.
Here we want to tell you about us, how we still put so much effort and sacrifice into everything we do. And above all, how the human aspect of our work is the foundation of our campsite.
Because people are the real soul of our campsite.

In this decade of economic boom, mass tourism was born. This makes Lake Garda a favorite destination for foreign and Italian tourists. In 1958, Camping La Quercia opened in an area that is a quarter of what it is today. Inside, there is a bar and a "little store" that acts as a supermarket, where Franco and Adriana begin their adventure, which still lasts today, after more than 50 years. The relationship with the guest comes first: "They should not feel like a number" is their motto.
1958-1969
1970-1979
Traveling is all about self-discovery and finding your own dimension: the campsite becomes a social phenomenon. Camping La Quercia increases in size, the new state-of-the-art office is built, and a promising young man comes to work right here: the future manager! In 1974, five bungalows, the water purifier and two tennis courts are built. In 1978, the new self-service restaurant opens. The sons of the Russo and Zaninelli families join the company. For the magazine "Stern" we are among the twenty best campsites in Europe.
Lake Garda becomes a popular destination for tourists from Northern Europe as well as from Italy. And it is in this decade of fun and hedonism that Flavio Zaninelli forms an entertainment team for guests, which will be the first in Italy. Facilities are set up to practice many sports on the campground; in addition to the Olympic-size swimming pool, a tent for judo and karate is built. A circus tent is erected, a place for fun-filled evenings. Last but not least, the sanitary facilities are renovated and the supermarket is expanded.
1980-1989
1990-1999
Although trips to exotic destinations are becoming increasingly popular, Lake Garda is still a favorite destination for travelers. In 1990, a new well for drinking water is built. In the following year, the "Funny bar" opens on the beach. In 1992, the new toilet block takes shape. In 1994, the outdoor pizzeria opens, and most importantly, the first maxicaravans are added! In 1997, the largest hot tub in Italy opens to our guests.
Attention to the environment and new technologies: this is what drives us to keep pursuing excellence! We obtain ISO certifications, and our increasingly well-trained staff always takes care of guests and is excited to welcome you with a smile! Celebrating 50 years is not an end goal, but just another step in our journey.
2000-2008
2009-2023
Our adventures together continue! Since 2009, we have built new mobile homes. Their number has more than doubled, from 150 to more than 300. We also started to give our guests the possibility to reserve pitches and to give more services to campers, with the renovation of 4 toilet blocks. Caring for the environment is always on the top of our agenda, with a major green project with "door-to-door" waste collection on the pitches.
And that's not the end of the story! The Tiki Beach Bar is built, the mini-golf course is renovated, two new swimming pools and the Leo Club for the fun of young and old alike are established. Not to mention the reception area and the brand-new Creator Room. The focus on everyone's well-being also includes training our staff, with first aid, AED and fire safety courses.
